Dated 1935\, but with previous images\, it contains a set of photographs of the school and the farmhouse that houses it. SUMMARY:Conference "Les reparacions fotogràfiques i el més-que-humà"\, by T. J. Demos\, at the KBr
DESCRIPTION:In the face of the tragic event of extinction of the multispecies we are experiencing\, the depiction of the disappearance of the more-than-human appears as a melancholy photographic practice. But what about the politics of its aesthetics? The imagery of lost species can cynically commodify the loss or serve as a liberal duel repertoire\, connecting photography with a necrospeculative economy. But could its associated ecological effects of pain and despair connect mourning with militancy\, a transformative anti-capitalist climate justice policy\, and a collective testimony that fuels the demands of a future reparator? How do you see repairs from a global crisis? And how could contemporary photography have a restorative horizon in itself? \n(Intervention in English with simultaneous translation into Spanish) \nT. J. Demos is a professor in the Department of Art History and Visual Culture at the University of California (Santa Cruz) and founding director of the University’s Center for Creative Ecology. He writes about contemporary art and global politics and investigates the intersection of visual culture\, radical politics\, and political ecology. He is the author of numerous books\, including Beyond the World’s End: Arts of Living at the Crossing (Duke\, 2020). He recently co-edited The Routledge Companion on Contemporary Art\, Visual Culture\, and Climate Change (2021) and led the Sawyer Seminar-funded Beyond the End of the World research project\, funded by the Mellon Foundation (2019-21). He chairs the Climate Collective\, which offers public programming at the MAAT (Lisbon).

SUMMARY:Conference "El futur de Xile en les fotografies del salnitre"\, by Xavier Ribas\, at the KBr
DESCRIPTION:The visual history of saltpetre\, popularly known as “Chilean nitrate”\, consists of a few (few) photo albums made by saltpetre entrepreneurs\, mostly of British origin. It is a photographic record documenting the process of saltpeter extraction in the Atacama Desert between the 1870s and 1920s. This legacy\, which is preserved in Chilean archives and libraries\, exudes capitalist and colonial rhetoric. The question is: How do we approach these photo albums critically ?; how is it possible to relate the experience of the saltpeter worker and his history of resistance from these photographs ?; how do we think about photographs considering what was left out of the image ?\, and finally how do we look at them from their historical development? As Andrea Jösch said\, these images anticipate a future of ruin and a coup. \nXavier Ribas is a photographer and professor at the University of Brighton and the Polytechnic University of Valencia. He studied Social Anthropology at the University of Barcelona and Documentary Photography at the Newport School of Art\, Media and Design. His photographic work explores disputed places and stories\, the geographies of abandonment\, temporary settlements\, and border territories. Since 2009 he has been part of the collective research project “Traces of Nitrate” on the extractive processes in Chile and the commercial networks that converge in the stock market of the City of London. He lives and works in London.

SUMMARY:Conference "Aturar la reiteració\, alterar l’explotació contínua"\, by Michaëla Danjé / Cases Rebelles\, at the KBr
DESCRIPTION:In September 2018\, when the publication of the book Sexe\, race et colonies was announced to the sound of drums and cymbals\, proclaiming an unprecedented iconographic profusion of 1\,200 images concentrated in a luxurious coffee table book-type edition\, the irruption of the text «Les corps épuisés du spectacle colonial ”[The exhausted bodies of the colonial spectacle] interrupted such vehemence and marked the beginning of an indispensable debate on the (re) mass circulation of photographs of colonial pornography under the pretext of historical research. Critically and ethically warning of spectacular methods in the field of historiography\, our text questioned the reproduction of the original violent gesture inherent in the photographic device. In the face of the realpolitiks of consummated facts and the scientific\, artistic\, etc. pretexts that perpetuate the expropriation (of bodies\, of rights)\, we demanded systems of restitution\, reparation\, restoration of privacy and retroactive creation of a legal framework that protects the victims of the colonization of a continuous exploitation. \n(Intervention in French with simultaneous translation into Spanish) \nColectivo Cases Rebelles Since 2010\, the black collective Cases Rebelles offers critical and militant\, Afrocentric perspectives in the form of writings\, videos and various publishing projects. Michaëla Danjé is a member and co-founder of Cases Rebelles. A multidisciplinary artist\, she is a musician\, writer and documentary filmmaker. Among others\, he has directed the play AfroTrans\, an unpublished anthology of black and trans voices. He is currently working on the essay Négritudes spectaculaires\, which traces a critical history of the mobilization of the black body both in and through the image.

SUMMARY:Conference "Què ens diuen les fotos que Víctor Melchor Basterra va requisar a l’horror?"\, by Ana Longoni\, at the KBr
DESCRIPTION:It is common to say that there are no photographs of the disappearance of people executed by the last Argentine dictatorship (1976-83). However\, there are some: they are not photographs of before or after the disappearance\, but photos of the “during”. They were part of the repressive bureaucracy\, which despite its illegal and clandestine procedure\, continued to regularly record arrests\, confessions snatched through torture\, and even the final fate of its victims. And they are not secret thanks to the courage of some surviving prisoners\, who confiscated them from the terror archives and made them public through complaints to human rights organizations and lawsuits. This is the case with the photographs taken by the School of Mechanics of the Navy (ESMA\, one of the largest clandestine detention and extermination centers in Buenos Aires) by Víctor Melchor Basterra (1944-2020). This conference aims to investigate the circulation of this set of photos\, marked by invisibility and aestheticization. \nAna Longoni is a writer\, researcher at the National Council for Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET) and a professor at the University of Buenos Aires. He has been working on the intersection of art and politics in Latin America since the mid-20th century. Author of numerous publications\, her latest book is Tercer oído (2021).\nSince its founding in 2007\, it has promoted the international platform Red Conceptualismos del Sur. He has curated\, among others\, the exhibitions “Roberto Jacoby. Desire is born of collapse ”(2011)\,“ Losing human form ”(2012) and“ Oscar Masotta. Theory as action ”(2017). Between 2018 and 2021\, she was director of the Public Activities Department at the Museo Nacional Centro de\nArt Queen Sofia.

SUMMARY:Conference «Mar de fons». Reclamar el dret de la naturalesa a renéixer \, by Hilde Van Gelder\, at the KBr
DESCRIPTION:From a selection of photographs taken by Bruno Serralongue for his series “Calais” (2006-)\, as well as his own research in the field of photofiction\, Hilde Van Gelder approaches the border landscape of the North Coast. french. This highly contested maritime area lends itself to a microcosmic analysis of all of our contemporary global challenges: migration\, climate change\, human rights\, and neoliberal surveillance technology. In their terrible convergence\, they run the risk of crushing us like a villainous and ecocidal wave. But it is also conceivable that a fertile earth wave (bottom sea) will end up growing\, which will generate a real renaissance in its path. A critical reflection on the indifference of a divided European Union to the large number of people on the move who are standing or drowning near the English Channel. A reflection that allows us to imagine a world in which every living thing caresses the fundamental right to be reborn. \n(Intervention in English with simultaneous translation into Spanish) \nHilde Van Gelder is Professor of Contemporary Art History at the University of Leuven (KU Leuven) and Director of the Lieven Gevaert Research Center for Photography\, Art and Visual Culture (LGC). Her research focuses on how photography can be an operative force in the visual arts for both relegitimizing and imagining fundamental rights. His latest book\, Ground Sea. Photography and the Right to Be Reborn (Leuven University Press\, 2021)\, unfolds a vivid account of repeated trips to Calais and Dover between 2017 and 2020.

SUMMARY:Conference «El matí no decideix sobre el que queda del dia»\, by Yasmine Eid-Sabbagh\, at the KBr
DESCRIPTION:In late 1975\, after Morocco invaded Western Sahara\, the Sahrawi resistance began gathering photographs of Moroccan soldiers captured or killed in combat. Most of these photographs were simple portraits of soldiers’ wives\, their girlfriends\, their children\, their parents\, or pictures of everyday life in Morocco. During the war years\, these photographs became an involuntary archive stored in temporary places in the Algerian desert\, where exiled Sahrawis had sought refuge. \nToday\, these images are waiting for the necessary conditions\, the end of the occupation and the ongoing conflict\, to be returned to their owners: returned not to the state\, but to the families who lost their loved ones in a hidden war. \n(Intervention in English with simultaneous translation into Spanish) \nIn her practice\, Yasmine Eid-Sabbagh explores the possibilities of human action through experimental and collective work processes. These processes include archival practices such as negotiating a digital archive set up with people from Burj al-Shamali\, a Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon. Photography acts as a means for her to communally investigate the notions of collectivity\, power\, and resistance; for example\, with his commitment as a member of the Arab Image Foundation and with the focus of his PhD in Art Theory and Cultural Studies at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts (2018).

SUMMARY:Fototertúlia (Photo Talk) Un paseo fotográfico por la Murcia del xiglo XIX. Vida y obra de Juan Almagro Roca\, by Asensio Martínez Jódar
DESCRIPTION:The Photo Talk will take place\, online\, on Monday\, April 4 at 6:30 p.m.\, by Asensio Martínez Jódar \n  \nOnline Photo Talk (the session will be recorded on video): https://meet.jit.si/FOTOTERTULIES2022 \n  \nJuan Almagro Roca (Murcia 1837 – 1899) was one of the most influential figures in the photographic panorama of the province of Murcia in the 19th century. He was a multifaceted figure to whom we can attribute different adjectives: priest\, liberal\, photographer and Freemason. Apparently contradictory adjectives\, but which can be understood and reconciled in the context of the social and political situation experienced during the Democratic Administration and the subsequent Bourbon Restoration. \n \nTrained in the tradition of the “visit card” by Julio Torres Vivancos\, Juan Almagro became\, in the mid-1870s\, the most outstanding portraitist in Murcia. His studio had no rival in this field\, bequeathing us a very high production in which he left a sample of his great technical and aesthetic quality. But this was not the only genus cultivated by Almagro. The urban views that he took of Murcia and its surroundings take us to a city in the process of modernization captured from a romantic perspective. This look was greatly influenced by the regionalist movement\, which vindicated popular traditions and love for the “small country” through different cultural productions. In this trend we can also include the numerous popular portraits of market gardeners from Múrica and the collection of reproductions of religious sculpture\, which constitutes an authentic visual and systematic catalog of the best carvings then existing in Murcia\, but perhaps one of his most unique works. It is constituted by his report on the Riada de Santa Teresa\, made at the end of 1879 to immortalize the humanitarian catastrophe experienced in the Murcian orchard as a result of this event.\n \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Conference «La bellesa a la barriada»: resistència i arquitectures de la despossessió a Lagos\, Nigèria\, by Naluwembe Binaisa\, at KBr
DESCRIPTION:In Lagos\, for centuries\, there has been a struggle against dispossession architectures\, framed by the ever-present colonial encounter. Naluwembe Binaisa is immersed in ethnographic research in Nigeria that seeks to understand the intersections between photography and political imagery. The title quote comes from Jide\, a Lagos youth activist\, and highlights the guiding principle of those who live in these areas and try to tell their own stories through photography and video. The restoration of their right to the city is invoked through the lens of indigenous cosmologies\, offering different forms of interpretation. Many have lost their homes and livelihoods due to the destruction of the excavator\, while others live under the imminent threat of being excluded from their ancestral heritage. In this case\, the photographs are considered to “always speak” and favor the alternative lines of view of the resistance to reveal the long duration of the response within the claims of rights and restitution. (Intervention in English with simultaneous translation into Spanish). \nNaluwembe Binaisa is an interdisciplinary researcher and creator\, and her work focuses on the intersections of mobility\, belonging and citizenship through generational and gender dynamics. His work questions racial capitalism and focuses on indigenous cosmologies and epistemologies. Naluwembe is part of the PHOTODEMOS collective\, dedicated to the project “Citizens of Photography: the Camera and the Political Imagination”.

SUMMARY:Conference El llegat oblidat d’Agustí Centelles. Més enllà del fotoperiodisme de guerra\, by Teresa Ferré Panisello\, at the KBr
DESCRIPTION:The photographer Agustí Centelles (1909-1985) has gone down in history as one of the great photojournalists of the Civil War. He represents a legacy recovered during the Transition in the midst of a mythical construction process around his figure. But his professional career hides a huge and at the same time exceptional visual production. Exceptional when we approach the set of unusual images from a historical and photographic point of view that he took while detained in the Bram concentration camp between March and September 1939. There he took hundreds of photographs that constitute a unique contribution of the visualization of the republican exile. But against all logic\, the photographer did not include them when he recorded the contents of his archive during the Transition\, nor did he explicitly claim them in the last years of his life. What could be the reason for not making them public? \nTeresa Ferré Panisello is a journalist and professor of the History of Communication and Journalism at the UAB and an independent researcher at the Observatory of Everyday Life (OVQ). His academic research focuses on photography and propaganda during the interwar period\, especially the figure of Agustí Centelles\, on whom he has done his doctoral dissertation\, curated several exhibitions and published some books including the diary of the photographer written in the Bram concentration camp. He is doing independent research for the OVQ in the projects “La imatge velada”\, which aims to recover the legacy of Catalan photojournalism from 1900 to 1939\, and “Gràfica anarquista”. \n

Women are the most forgotten of the prison system\, as they represent only 7 of the inmate population\, with fewer facilities and resources than men. The Foundation wants to contribute to social transformation through culture\, a powerful tool that it always “saves” us. \n  \nInfo about the phto talk (catalan) \n  \n

SUMMARY:PhotoTalk (Fototertulia) THE DOUBLE IMAGE OF THE SPANISH CIVIL WAR IN CLAUDEK'S PHOTOGRAPHS\, by Marta López Beriso
DESCRIPTION:THE DOUBLE IMAGE OF THE SPANISH CIVIL WAR IN CLAUDEK’S PHOTOGRAPHS\nBy Marta López Beriso.\nMonday\, February 7th\,  2022 at 18:30 h. \nYou can access the phototalk from this link (the session will be recorded on video): https://meet.jit.si/FTT_2022 \nThe British Claude Kinnoull (1904-1985)\, cosmopolitan\, rich heiress\, divorced from a nobleman\, financier of Catholic and political propaganda projects\, in love with adventure\, is the photographer Claudek. A vehement-eyed photojournalist who\, between 1936 and 1939\, and together with her godfather\, the priest Vincent de Moor\, toured many places on the front lines and the rear\, including Gernika\, Durango\, Eibar\, Tortosa\, Malaga and Toledo. Her intention was to provide arguments about “the barbarism of the Marxist hordes” and the alleged betrayal of the Non-Intervention pact by France and England. Accredited by a London weekly of her property\, The Catholic Herald\, she toured in her own car\, under the control of different press officers\, all those places that served for propaganda and the creation of the myth of the necessity of the coup of 18 July 1936. \nClaudek\, Familias con niños en un parque\, Museo de los Mártires de Barbastro \nHowever\, what it shows\, without knowing it\, is the reality of the systematic destruction\, designed and perpetrated by the Francoist side and its allies\, through images populated by people of all conditions and ages\, alive or dead\, evicted by the didactics of the terror imposed by the rebel side during the Spanish civil war. Images of the remains\, sometimes still smoking\, of recently bombed towns\, of the corpses of soldiers\, civilians and even children. And also of people waiting\, living\, eating or sleeping in the street along with a few household items\, are the ones that lead us to see first-hand the harsh consequences of discriminated and planned bombings with both physical and moral violence\, whose end today we debate whether it belongs to the later definition of genocide. \nPhotoTalk presentation \n

SUMMARY:Fototertúlia (Photo Talk) Bitter\, Sweet\, Soft\, by Bernat Millet
DESCRIPTION:BITTER\, SWEET\, SOFT\nby Bernat Millet\, photographer.\nMonday\, December 13\, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. \nCercle Artístic de Sant Lluc\, Mercaders Street\, 42\, Barcelona. (Limited capacity). \nYou can also access the fototertulia from this link (the session will be recorded on video):  https://meet.jit.si/FTT_2021 \nMillet focuses his gaze on everyday life\, on a story of the intimate\, where a strong sense of union arises based on the pillar of the family\, which sustains fields whose inhabitants live their lives in a waiting rhythm. In this way\, the Sahrawi people reinforce their identity\, forging\, day by day\, through their values\, a feeling of belonging\, trying to blur the scars that cross their souls\, giving way to a crack through which a small light. \nWhat happens to the perception of time in a place where the future is uncertain and the only thing that makes you get up and keep fighting is the hope of liberation? \nThe Saharawi culture is drowned in a desert without spatial limits but limited in resources. In this inhospitable place\, real and metaphorical desert\, games and laughter spring up\, in an apparently barren land where buds that are waiting to emerge are hidden. Its inhabitants rise up to rebel against the condemnation of oblivion\, against the days not lived\, against the empty time\, against the desolation. They shout in a harsh voice that they still have the strength to continue fighting. \n  \nFototertúlia brochure (Catalan and Spanish)

SUMMARY:Opening: ENFOCADES! “el que anem trobant..” - Discovering the presence of women in the AFC
DESCRIPTION:From December 1st to January 8th\, 2022 \nhttps://patillimona.net/del-01-12-al-08-01-enfocades-descobrint-la-presencia-femenina-a-lafc/ \nThe Agrupació Fotogràfica de Catalunya\, founded in 1923\, has been the main association dedicated to the promotion of artistic photography in the country\, favoring the appearance of successive generations of renowned photographers\, such as Pla i Janini\, Campañá\, or Carbonell\, and later Miserachs\, Masats\, Terré or Maspons. \nOn the other hand\, the interest of the women of the Franco regime was favored\, achieving the dissemination of their works in the so-called Women’s Group\, a pioneer in Spain. \nOver the years\, all this activity has created an excellent heritage fund\, enriched by numerous donations from authors or relatives. \nThe AFC wants to give visibility and highlight part of this heritage through works by members who in an entity\, mostly male\, have been part of the history of photography\, many of which have not yet been recognized \, and others\, little known\, in order to facilitate a better understanding of the reality that has existed over the years in the field of amateur photography. \nThe purpose of this exhibition is to make known and disseminate the photographic work of members and donors of the Agrupació Fotogràfica de Catalunya. These authors have been located in recent years as progress has been made in the inventory of the heritage fund. \nThe exhibition is not intended to be a final act\, but rather a presentation open to future research that places women photographers in their proper place. \nWorks by: Anna Barnès\, Rosa Bosch\, Elvira Castellvi\, Elisenda Domingo\, Elisabeth Figa\, Carme Garcia Pedrosa\, Carme Garcia Portabales\, Montserrat Gili\, Teresa Gironés\, Pilar Masbernat\, Lina Mur\, Carme Ollé\, Roser Oromí\, Francesca Portolés\, Pepita Sulé \nFrom the AFC Heritage Commission we invite you to discover them!

SUMMARY:Fototertulia (PhotoTalk) POLAROID ™ INSTANT COLOR PHOTOGRAPH: DEGRADATIONS AND CONSERVATION \, by Joan Pifarré
DESCRIPTION:POLAROID ™ INSTANT COLOR PHOTOGRAPH: DEGRADATIONS AND CONSERVATION\nBy Joan Pifarré\, curator and restorer of photographic heritage\nMonday\, November 8\, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. \nCercle Artístic de Sant Lluc\, Mercaders Street\, 42\, Barcelona. \nYou can also access the fototertulia from this link (the session will be recorded on video): https://meet.jit.si/FTT_2021 \nComparative image of the result of the effects of sunlight after 30 days. Photo: Joan Pifarré \n  \nIn the 1940s\, Edwin H. Land revolutionized the world of photography by introducing on the market a photographic material capable of developing and fixing the image in a few seconds\, without the need to go to a laboratory. \nThis type of photography became a mass phenomenon in the seventies due to its simplicity\, multiplying the practice of photography in the domestic and scientific environment; becoming a cultural icon\, by which great artists were seduced. Today\, the peculiarities of instant photography continue to influence society. This is evidenced\, among others\, by nostalgia for the past and the rise of retro fashion. \nUnfortunately\, snapshots are objects of a very fragile nature and are subject to a wide variety of deterioration due to their intrinsic characteristics\, which continuously interact with the environment and with themselves. This has been corroborated by the different experimental tests that have been carried out and which have resulted in light being a crucial agent and that different factors must also be taken into account\, such as exposure time and wavelength and temperature. radiation intensity. The photographs show notable physical-chemical transformations in extreme situations of temperature and relative humidity and that each time a Polaroid ™ is handled\, a series of small physical damages can be caused. For this reason\, a good preventive conservation is necessary to avoid the degradation\, disappearance or destruction of the image. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Fototertúlia (PhotoTalk) Artistic practices and image archives. New uses of photo collections\, by Pep Ros
DESCRIPTION:Next Monday\, October 4th\, we will enjoy a new photo talk\, which will be given by Pep Ros Nicolau with the title \nArtistic practices and image archives. New uses of photo collections. \nPere Pratdesaba. Monument. Wire thieves\, Jordi Mitjà\, 2012. Installation. Espai 13. Joan Miró Foundation. Barcelona. \nThis activity will be FACE-TO-FACE and will take place as usual at the Cercle Artístic de Sant Lluc (carrer Mercaders\, 42\, Barcelona) although it can also be followed online via the link https://meet.jit.si/FTT_2021 \nThe relationship between the archive and artistic practice has entered a new phase in recent times. The centrality of archival documents in artistic practices\, and how artists have turned their gaze to those\, is the theme around which this presentation revolves. \nFrom the study and analysis of some cases\, a theoretical reflection is proposed on how some contemporary artistic practices use the archives\, in this case photographic\, to elaborate discourses and artistic projects that either project a new look on the materials that they are preserved\, seen with a new intentionality and perspective from the intellectual and aesthetic baggage of a critical position and / or experience in the interpretation and reading of images or give new functions and meanings to these documents\, going beyond both their content and of its iconographic value as of the photographic object itself. \nIn both cases\, the creation of the research artist becomes a work of recovery projection\, a dialogue between past and future. It is a relationship in which the element of time is inherent in photography itself since its genesis\, without which it could not exist\, but which at the same time ends up appearing in it and determining its death\, also becomes a necessary and essential part. to structure and sustain these artistic practices. \nFototertúlia brochure (Catalan and Spanish) \nSee you there!

SUMMARY:Fototertúlia Àngel Prat\, the photographer of the countryside and the shrewd look \, by Sònia Granel Marín
DESCRIPTION:Monday\, September 6\, 2021. \nYou can access the live photo talk at 6:30 pm from this link (the session will be recorded on video): https://meet.jit.si/FTT_2021 \nÀngel Prat i Pujol (Cal Vidal\, Puig-Reig\, 1906 – Vilardaga de la Guàrdia\, Sagàs\, 2002)\, was born in an industrial colony in the Llobregat where his parents owned the inn and the butcher’s shop. He started practicing photography out of sheer curiosity and also thanks to the arrival of cinema in Puig-Reig. He was then fourteen years old and as a result of that event began to cast Chinese shadows on his home with transparent paper. \nThis hobby grew when the family moved to another colony in the Berguedà region. There he established contact with Belgian loom assemblers accustomed to the new technological and photographic trends of the time\, which provided him with magazines and photography manuals that he studied. From them he retained the technique\, the practice of capturing and developing photographs and adapted his own technique in a completely self-taught way. \nAfter his marriage to the pubilla of a large manor house in the municipality of Sagàs (also in Berguedà)\, the doors were opened for him to develop his photographic side more habitually. \nAs an amateur and self-taught photographer\, Prat has won numerous national and international awards. His work is a first-rate experiential and documentary legacy about the landscape of Berguedà\, agricultural work in farmhouses\, textile colonies\, social and journalistic chronicles\, without forgetting the images of his travels or the author’s photographs. \nChildren tying corn cobs to let them dry in a room in the house of Vilardaga de la Guàrdia. Sagàs\, c. 1950 – 1960 \nHis work was researched between 2014 and 2015 on the occasion of the exhibition and publication of the book Àngel Prat\, la mirada sagaç. Photographs from 1940 to 1980\, curated by Sònia Granel\, a tribute to the figure of the photographer. The exhibition was promoted by the company Logos Berguedà\, with the help of Virgínia Parramon\, which aimed to promote the culture of the region. \nAfter an exhaustive work of reviewing the photographic collection of Prat\, it was possible to know and appreciate the gaze of a man passionate about photography\, landscapes\, the region and his time. \n  \n
