DESCRIPTION:Monday\, October 5\, 2026\, at 6:30 PM.\nPati Llimona Civic Centre\, Carrer de Regomir\, 3\, Barcelona – 08002. \n\n\nFor our October photo-discussion\, we are pleased to welcome RICARDO GUIXA FRUTOS\, Professor of Photography at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Barcelona. The event will take place in person at Pati Llimona on the first Monday of the month—October 5—at 6:30 PM.\n\nThe talk aims to reflect on the relationship between photography and reality from an epistemological perspective and through the lens of photography’s historical interactions with science. It also addresses the current context defined by the emergence of realistic-looking images generated by Artificial Intelligence.\n\nThe ability of artificial intelligence to create photorealistic images has once again raised a fundamental question: what relationship does a photograph have with the world\, and how does it differ from other forms of representation? This lecture proposes a reflection on what specifically defines the medium\, the current limitations of generative AI\, and the consequences of equating the photographic with mere appearance.\nDrawing on concepts such as referentiality\, the production of presence\, and the epistemological dimension of photography\, the talk will analyze the factors that have made it a unique medium for representation and knowledge production\, as well as its contribution to the construction of our visual culture.
