Last Monday, October 10, we were lucky enough to be able to enjoy a guided tour of the exhibition The city in front of the camera. Urban imaginaries in the 19th century at the Photographic Archive of Barcelona, explained by the curator and partner of Fotoconnexió, Núria F. Rius.
The modernization processes typical of industrialization and the bourgeois revolution in the s. XIX subjected the city of Barcelona to an intense transformation that modified its civic imagery and its urban form. Photography played a key role in the realization of this metamorphosis and the photographic view of the city was an engine of modeling and implementation, as it made visible the discourses and ideas about Barcelona that would end up being imposed thanks to circulation and distribution of their images.
